Installation and setup
Follow this guide to install MetaLensAI on your phone and connect it to Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. If you go through this manual carefully, there’s a good chance it will work for you and you’ll unlock streaming to YouTube so grab a coffee ☕ and follow the steps one by one. Step 1 - Download & Install
Important: Please review the requirements before installation.
Scan the QR code on the Home Page or click Download to get the APK file. We are not in the Google Play Store yet.
If you already have the MetaLens AI APK file on your phone, it is time to install it. On the right, the short video shows the installation process and the steps you need to follow.
- After you clicked Download, your browser should show a message that the download has started. When it finishes, tap Open, follow the steps shown in the video, and start the installation.
- If Android asks for permission, allow installs from unknown sources for your browser or file manager.
The APK is safe to install and is downloaded from a public GitHub repository.
This unconventional installation process is required due to current Meta platform limitations. Once Meta resolves them, the app will be available on Google Play Store.
Step 2 - Developer Mode Required in Meta AI
Before you start installing MetaLens AI, Developer Mode must be enabled in the Meta AI app so the MetaLens AI app can connect to your Meta glasses.
Watch this short video tutorial or follow the steps below:
- Open Meta AI app on your phone.
- Go to Settings → App Info. Note: This is not the glasses settings (open the top-left ☰ menu, then go to Settings at the bottom of the menu).
- Tap the App version number five times quickly — this reveals the Developer Mode toggle.
- Enable the Developer Mode toggle.
- Tap Enable to confirm.
Step 3 - Connect your Glasses with MetaLens AI
Important: If this is your first time connecting glasses with MetaLens AI, make sure your glasses are fully charged.
Before you start connecting your glasses, make sure Step 2 - Developer Mode in Meta AI is enabled. Otherwise it will not work.
- Open the Settings app and select Connect my glasses.
- Approve the Bluetooth permission request.
- If pairing succeeds, go to Connected devices and check whether your glasses appear on the list.
Troubleshooting
- Cannot connect my glasses? Close the MetaLens AI app, then turn your glasses off and on using the physical switch on the left arm. Try to connect again.
- Meta glasses getting hot? If you feel they are hot or you hear this voice message, go to FAQ for the dedicated troubleshooting topic.
Step 4 - Choose your options
Congrats if you made it this far! Now choose what you want to do with MetaLens AI.
- Want to stream to YouTube? Open the Streaming Guide to see how to start streaming live.
- More into ChatGPT conversations? Open the ChatGPT setup guide, add your OpenAI API key, then tap the Home button and click Start Conversation.
- Interested in Picture Analysis? Tap Picture Analysis. The counter will run and allow you to take and analyze pictures directly from your glasses using your OpenAI API key.
