This guide shows how to connect ChatGPT in MetaLensAI using your OpenAI API key. Follow the steps once, save the key, and start voice conversations directly from your glasses.

Step 1 - Generate your OpenAI API key

Sign in to your OpenAI account and create a secret API key. This key is required for ChatGPT conversations and picture analysis in MetaLensAI.

  • Open OpenAI API keys.
  • Click Create new secret key.
  • Copy the new key and keep it ready for the next step.

Important: Do not share your API key publicly. Treat it like a password.

Step 2 - Add the key in MetaLensAI

  • Open MetaLensAI on your Android phone.
  • Go to Settings / AI Settings.
  • Tap the OpenAI API key button.
  • Paste your key into the OpenAI API key input field and save changes.
  • Tap Check Connection button. If Connection OK, your access key is valid.

If validation fails, or after moving to Live Vision AI, Conversations or Picture Analysis you see error:

You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. For more information on this error, read the docs: https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/error-codes/api-errors

TLDR; It means that you need to upgrade to a paid plan. Set up a paid account, add a credit or debit card, and generate a new API key if your old one was generated before the upgrade.

Solution: Buy more credits or learn how to increase your limits.

Step 3 - Start ChatGPT conversation

  • Go back to the Home screen in MetaLensAI.
  • Click Live Vision AI if you want real-time insights from what you see through glasses.
  • Tap Start Conversation to launch voice chat.
  • Use Picture Analysis if you want AI to describe what your glasses camera sees.
