Short answer: use Record Video to File

The native camera flow on Ray-Ban Meta glasses is built around short clips. Meta's documentation says Ray-Ban Meta users can set a maximum video length of up to 3 minutes, and Meta's battery saver documentation says the maximum video length can be reduced from 3 minutes to 1 minute while battery saver is active.

For longer footage stored on your phone, open Record Video to File in MetaLensAI. The app records the glasses feed through your phone and saves the result as an MP4 file in Movies/MetaLens. This keeps the recording local, private, and separate from any social platform.

1. Prepare your glasses and phone

  • Charge your Ray-Ban Meta glasses before a long recording.
  • You can keep recording as long as your glasses and phone battery can support the session.
  • Avoid starting long sessions when the glasses battery is below 30%.
  • Keep your phone close to the glasses during the recording.
  • Make sure the phone has enough free storage for a longer MP4 file.
  • Set Battery to No restrictions for MetaLensAI on Android.
  • Close heavy apps before recording important footage.

2. Open Record Video to File

On the MetaLensAI Home screen, tap Record Video to File.

Before the first recording, MetaLensAI shows a Before You Start Recording dialog. It confirms that the video is saved only on your phone and shows the current Video Output view. If your glasses are connected, you can use the glasses feed and, in supported modes, combine it with phone camera views.

3. Choose the right recording mode

Performance

Use Performance when smoothness, clarity, long sessions, and low phone workload matter most. In this mode, live preview is disabled so the saved MP4 can look cleaner, smoother, and more stable.

Interactive Mode

Use Interactive Mode when the recording needs creative tools: filters, reactions, Dual Camera, Screen Share, phone camera shots, HUDs, tutorials, demos, or social-style clips.

4. Adjust quality and FPS if needed

MetaLensAI uses the app's camera quality setting for local recording and has a separate Video Recording FPS setting for the Record Video to File module.

  • The default local recording frame rate is 24 FPS.
  • Local recording supports frame rates up to 30 FPS.
  • If playback looks rough on your phone, try setting Camera Quality to Medium.

5. Stop recording and wait for the MP4

When you stop recording, do not close the app immediately. MetaLensAI may show Saving file to Movies/MetaLens... and then Processing file.... Wait until the app reports that the recording has been saved.

  • The saved file is an MP4.
  • Files are stored in Movies/MetaLens on your phone.
  • The app names files in the style MetaLens_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.mp4.
  • When saving is complete, tap Open File to view the recording.

Private local video files. Record Video to File is designed for private local recording. Your video file is saved on your phone, not published to a streaming platform, and not uploaded to MetaLensAI servers.

MetaLensAI does not have access to your saved MP4 files. The recording stays in your phone's local video storage unless you choose to share it, upload it, copy it to a computer, or open it in another app.

Troubleshooting long local recordings

  • If the glasses preview cannot start right after reconnecting, close Record Video to File and open it again.
  • If the saved file is still processing, wait before opening or sharing it.
  • If Android playback looks jumpy, open the file on a computer in QuickTime Player or another desktop player.
  • If playback still looks rough, use Medium Camera Quality for the next recording.
  • If the recording stops early, check glasses battery, phone battery restrictions, free storage, and the phone-to-glasses connection.
