How to Record Landscape Videos with Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses

Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses capture a tall, portrait-oriented camera feed by default. With MetaLensAI, you can create a landscape video in two practical ways: use the built-in Horizontal view for a ready-made composition, or send the feed to OBS Studio when you need precise control over the canvas, framing, and output size.

Two ways to create landscape video with MetaLensAI

Option 1: MetaLensAI Horizontal view

Use the app's built-in layout when you want a wider landscape composition without setting up a computer, MediaMTX, or OBS scene.

Option 2: OBS Studio resizing

Use the OBS workflow when you want to choose the canvas resolution yourself and resize, reposition, crop, or combine the glasses feed with other sources.

Option 1: Use MetaLensAI's built-in Horizontal view

MetaLensAI includes a Horizontal option in Settings > Video Output > Glasses view. Select it, save the setting, and use the resulting layout when recording or streaming from the app.

The implementation uses a centered 4:5 crop of the glasses feed and composes it on a wider 4:3 landscape canvas. This creates a horizontal presentation around the glasses view; it does not physically rotate the camera inside the glasses.

  1. Open MetaLensAI on your phone.
  2. Open Settings and select Video Output.
  3. Under Glasses view, choose Horizontal.
  4. Save the setting, then start your recording or live stream.

For a fuller landscape composition, enable Immersive background. MetaLensAI creates a soft, wide background from the glasses feed and places the main 4:5 view in front. This can make the result feel more natural on a landscape canvas, but may affect video performance.

Option 2: Stream to OBS Studio and fit the image to your canvas

OBS Studio gives you more control than a fixed in-app preset. MetaLensAI sends the glasses feed to a computer through Custom RTMP and MediaMTX, while OBS receives it as a source and lets you define the final landscape composition.

  1. Configure MetaLensAI Custom RTMP to send the glasses feed to MediaMTX.
  2. Add the MediaMTX stream to OBS Studio as a Media Source.
  3. Set the OBS Base (Canvas) Resolution to your target landscape format, such as 1920 x 1080.
  4. Select the glasses source in the OBS canvas and resize or reposition it until the framing is right.
  5. Use OBS Studio to add overlays, other sources, recording, and the final platform output.

Together, MetaLensAI and OBS Studio let you turn the glasses feed into a true 16:9 landscape output. You can stream the finished video to almost any platform supported by OBS, while MetaLensAI can also save a local recording on your phone with Record Video to File.

Which landscape video method should you choose?

Choose Horizontal in MetaLensAI when...

You want the quickest route to a wider glasses layout, prefer to stay on your phone, and do not need to build a custom OBS scene.

Choose OBS Studio when...

You need a specific output resolution, manual framing, overlays, multiple sources, recording controls, or the ability to stream to a platform from your computer.

Important aspect ratio notes

  • The native camera view from Ray-Ban Meta glasses is portrait-oriented. A landscape result is created by MetaLensAI or OBS Studio after the feed reaches the app or computer.
  • MetaLensAI's built-in Horizontal mode uses a 4:5 glasses crop inside a wider 4:3 landscape composition.
  • OBS Studio lets you choose a different landscape canvas, but the final result depends on whether you fit, crop, or stretch the source.
  • Use a stable connection and keep the phone close to the glasses during the stream to reduce interruptions.
